To help visualize how a rug will look in your space, I use masking tape to create a border on the floor where the rug will lie. When measuring your room, give yourself around about a 4- 6 cm margin as a rug may not come in your exact size.
It's always better to go for a bigger rug as most returns are for rugs that are too small and not too big.
Once you have the tape placed exactly where you want the rug to go, you can then measure the length and width of the area. Using those dimensions will help you choose a rug size that is closest to your desired measurements.
